During the Year of 2019, Progressive Community Outreach continued to provide Social Skill Development and Self- Sufficiency Training Workshops for adolescents between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age. Our agency has contracted these services with Elementary, Middle and High Schools, as well as Residential Living Facilities.
Summer programs included Progressive Community Outreach Job Readiness training, in which youth who were transitioning out of High School with resume writing and mock interviewing. Workshops resulted in clients obtaining employment and the creation of jobs for those unable to secure a job within the mainstream job search avenues.
In regard to our outreach missions, Progressive Community Outreach has continued to provide educational resources as needed. Since 2011, Progressive Community Outreach has supplied families in need with school supplies and resources needed for children to have a successful transition back to school from the summer break. With partnerships from Healthy Minds Coalition, AVAIL Counseling Services, and the Beta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Progressive was able to distribute over 450 book bags to the children of Pen Oaks Community in Petersburg, VA and Jackson Ward in Richmond, VA.
Throughout the Year, Progressive Community Outreach expanded our missions internationally traveling to Africa and Puerto Rico, providing resources and supplies to children and families. In June, Progressive Community Outreach provided the children at Graced Word of Faith Evangelical Ministry in Accra Ghana, school supplies, toys and educational books to enhance the educational disparity and promote continued learning.
In December 2019, Progressive Community Outreach partnered with local Department of Social Services in surrounding areas to obtain clothes, shoes, toys and educational items to provide to kids in the Petersburg, Richmond and other surrounding areas gifts for the Christmas Holiday. Without the support from our community and local support partners, this giving would not be possible.
